The Lagos State Government is considering an upward review of bus fare under the Joint Venture Initiative by between 20 and 50 percent.

The Joint Venture Operators which includes LAGBUS and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) blame the increase on the current economic challenge facing the country. The increase according to the Managing Director of Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Dayo Mobereola will take effect from March 1, 2017‎.

Transportation in a state of over 20 million residents to some is serious business as it plays crucial role to the development and growth of the state. Since the introduction of the Bus Rapid Transit from the time of former Governor Babatunde‎ Fashola Lagos residents have enjoyed a relatively cheap fare.

Shortly ‎after the announcement of a possible ban of yellow buses by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, LAMATA has announced plans to increase bus fare on all routes.
