The Administrative Secretary of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) in Plateau State, Sheikh Abdulazeez Yusuf and his driver have been released two days after they were abducted around Saminaka, Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Sheikh Abdulazez and his driver Abdullah were on their way to Kaduna, to meet up with his colleagues in order to travel to Sokoto State on Thursday for a condolence visit when the incident occurred.

The Plateau State Publicity Secretary of the Jama’atu Nasirul Islam (JNI) Alh. Sani Mudi, who confirmed the release of the Islamic cleric, said “Alhamdulillah! We have secured the release of our dear Sheikh Abdulazez Yusuf and his driver from their captors.” Mudi said their release was secured through the JNI headquarters in Kaduna, but could not say if any ransom was paid.
A member of the Sheikh’s family said the Islamic scholar was physically well and had reunited with his family.

However, our correspondent gathered from sources that the Islamic cleric and his driver were taken to various locations by their abductors and that after negotiations, JNI and the abductors settled for a N5 million ransom.

Commenting on the development, the member representing Jos North/Bassa federal constituency, Suleiman Yayaha Kwande, yesterday said the spate of abductions around the country was a cause for concern, describing it as a new trend that must be curbed immediately.

Kwande in a press release said, “our security agents need to strive hard, fashion out advance intelligence mechanisms and tactics to curb this menace.” He also expressed sadness over the recent inferno which engulfed a section of the Jos main market and called on the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to assess the damage so that support could be rendered to the victims.
